What things should I do in college that will look good on a resume when I apply for a job after college?

I will be a business administration major with a focus in marketing. What kinds of activities/groups should I be in that will look good on a resume after I graduate? I want to do things that will help me gain valuable experience and help me get a job later in life. Thank you very much.

take on as many JOBS/INTERNSHIPS as HUMANLY POSSIBLE. my first job out of college, they said oh cool you went to this nice school (5seconds), now what did you do at this internship (good i took one on even though it was UNPAID). Believe me there is no difference between a 3.6 and 3.3 when applying for a job. WHAT WILL SET YOU APART IS WORK EXP. GET A JOB!!

Internships are a must!!! I’m in one now, and it’s really helping me to understand what “a day in the life” will be like once I’m actually in a full time position. It is also helping me know more of what I like/dislike about accounting. Any experience in the field will put you in a much brighter light in an employer’s mind. Also, most colleges have some sort of business fraternity/sorority that you could join. Good luck.

If you want to get into marketing when you graduate, do marketing, promotions, PR, and advertising for on-campus groups that you’re involved in, or can get involved in. Any club that interests you is fine, but do the marketing work for them, to build your resume. In addition, as the others here said, you really need to do an internship in marketing before you graduate. That is going to be key to your future employment in the field, so make sure you do one.

get a related job, or at least a job at a company related to what you want to do. Even if it is unpaid for a summer.
When I interview recent grads I not only look for work experience in relation to the job they are appllying for but also just work experience in general. People that work while going to school and in the summer etc illustrate their ability to multitask, time management skills, responsibility etc. so if you cant get a specific position dont get discouraged.
Also, doing extracurriculars is good. Sports, groups, clubs etc. having a leadership role on those teams also looks good. A team captain, club treasureer. Things like that.
