What exactly is “event-based marketing”? Is my idea a bit wrong?

Sooooooo . . . I applied for a job simply b/c it had “writer” as one of their targets (among many others). I have an interview tomorrow, and I’ve been researching the heck out of the company. Still I have no idea what this really is . . . is it like running stands at the state fair for a company, for example, or holding demonstrations at grocery stores? What is this? And I even wiki’d it . . . nothing.

Any help would be appreciated; thanks all!

  1. Known says:

It sounds like you go to places and try to sell products.

It would depend on the product, but you would probably offer a free sample, or a demonstration or just have an item on display, that people could look at and ask about.

In a grocery store you might give samples of these great new crackers a company was just releasing. You would offer them to shoppers and tell them all the praises of the product. You might give them a coupon and point out where they will be located in the store.

At a fair you might have a vacuum cleaner and a few surfaces with some items to pick up. You would either sell the item on the spot, or direct them to where they could purchase one. It would also likely you would collect leads, and a sales force would follow up.

The range of exact scenarios is infinite, it would depend on the product the event and how the distributor would like to see the product positioned, among other variables.

    Good luck in your interview!

Event based marketing is when you hold an event to market something. You may be responsible for organizing events to market your company. Maybe.
