What activities are good to have on your college application?

I will be going into high school next year and I understand that you have to be involved in activities from the very start for your college application to stand out and look great. I’m hopefully going into business in college and my dream school is Yale but realistically, I’m looking at UMD or UVA. I’ll be taking all of the AP courses available and I know that I can handle them. My GPA has been a 4.0 for the past 2 years and I’m in all of the hardest classes that my school had to offer. Any advice for clubs or groups to shine that will really make me stand out? I play the violin so I guess pursuing that might be a good idea. Thanks for any ideas
Your going to want to think about community service and leadership, these two are very important and of course National Honor Society. Your are also going to need to be in the very top of your class. While their is no best thing to do, try to find activities that are unique and define you as well as give you leadership experience. Also working in some kind of job once your old enough will work as well. Also take advantage of any college credit you can receive before you graduate high school ,even if Yale doe not take the credit, it will still look really good.
And a word from the wise
go for quality not quantity- this will help in the long run
But other than that you sound as if your in the right place and know where you going, keep up the good work and good luck.
P.S.
A councilor at your school can help you as well
this is what you SHOULDNT do:
join a bunch of clubs just to put on your resume
because colleges can tell when students just do a bunch of things to make themselves look good for applications.
what they LIKE to see are applicants who have a hobby and pursue clubs that pertain to that hobby, not just a variety of stuff to try to impress them. because they’ve seen all that before & they can tell.
