I am a very creative artitstic individual. I think I would like to work in the wedding planning business. I am hardworking, and love to design, concepts and make things beautiful. I don’t know how I could get started in the wedding planning/events planning business. Does anyone ahve any ideas that would help me to get started.,
With these types of businesses (wedding planner, catering, etc) its important to SHOW people what you can do AND get word of mouth advertising. Plan a wedding for a friend or relative. Plan a fund raiser for a charity or local church group. Take pictures and build a portfolio. My mom did this. She planned fund raisers for the historical society, the garden club and a few church groups. Over 1,000 people attended these events and everyone wanted to know if she planned weddings too.
Once people knew she could pull it off a successful event, they hired her. By planning these events, she got to know all the local bridal places, the people who own the function halls, the bands, the catering people, the bartenders, the churches, etc. Because she planned events for charities, she got to know lots of people with money – exactly the types of people who can pay and have daughters!
She also put everyone’s name into a database. She put in everyone she met – anyone who provided any kind of service and all the people who attended all of her events. She has thousands of people in her database. She sends out thank you cards, christmas cards, introduction letters, etc to everyone in her database. As her database gets larger, she gets more referals. She has never advertised.
She has so much business she can’t handle it all.
either do some wedding for free (for friends and family) or get a job at a company that does planning. No one will hire you without experience.
