affecting businesses. Do these activities justify support for the UN? Would it be better if the activities of these agencies were done by private entities such as trade groups?

What peacekeeping missions.Everything they touch turns to sh*t. The UN is good at stealing, fraud ,rape and daily incompetence in running their affairs. It is a haven for 3rd world bureaucrats to live off the un gov.dole. You may want to do some more research on this fiasco.

Although I’m not sure which activities to which you are referring, yes, the UN would probably best leave most of the activities in which it engages to private entities and individual nations. The idea that one governing body can decide what is best for hundreds of disparate nations is just a tad absurd, and this has caused at least some if not many of their programs and initiatives to backfire or at least flop.
